Why Expert Advice Matters

Not all finishes are created equal. Using the wrong product in a high-moisture area like a bathroom or a high-traffic zone like a kitchen can lead to failure. We ensure you select materials that are specifically engineered for the environment they will live in.

We also look at the "whole picture," coordinating your cabinet finish with countertops, backsplashes, and flooring for a cohesive interior design.

Painted Cabinet Finish

Exotic Veneers

For contemporary European styles, we source premium wood veneers that offer consistent grain patterns and sleek, flat-panel aesthetics not always possible with solid wood.

Distressing & Antiquing

Add instant age and character with hand-applied distressing techniques. We can simulate wormholes, wear-through, and patina to give new cabinets an authentic obsession of history.

Laminates & Thermofoils

For budget-friendly, high-durability options, we offer modern textured laminates (TFL) and thermofoils that mimic the look of real wood or high-gloss paint but are easy to clean and scratch-resistant.

Needs Assessment

We start by discussing how the space will be used. Do you have pets? Young children? High grease cooking? These factors heavily influence our material recommendations.

Sample Presentation

We present a curated selection of wood samples and color chips based on your style preferences. We view them in your home's lighting conditions to ensure the color reads correctly.

Custom Match (Optional)

If you have a specific inspiration piece or want to match existing furniture, we create a custom sample door for your approval. This ensures the final product is exactly what you envisioned.

Final Specification

We document your choices in detail, including sheen level, distressing options, and profiles, creating a clear specification for our shop to execute flawlessly.

Material & Finish FAQs

What is more durable: paint or stain?
Generally, stained wood is more forgiving of nicks and scratches because the color penetrates the wood. Paint sits on top and can chip if hit hard, though modern catalyzed paints are extremely tough. Stain also hides dust better than dark paints or pure white.
What is the hardest wood for cabinets?
Hickory and Hard Maple are among the hardest domestic woods, making them very resistant to dents. Cherry and Walnut are softer but still plenty durable for cabinetry. We help you balance hardness with the grain look you prefer.
Can I see a sample of my specific color?
Yes. For every custom project, we provide a "strike-off" or sample block on the actual wood species you chose. We require your signature on this sample before we begin finishing to ensure you are 100% satisfied.
Do paints crack at the joints?
Solid wood expands and contracts with humidity changes. On painted 5-piece doors, hairline cracks at the joints are normal and unavoidable. To minimize this, we often recommend using MDF center panels, which are more stable than solid wood for painted applications.
Are your finishes eco-friendly?
We offer low-VOC and water-based finishing options that are safe for your family and the environment without sacrificing durability. Please ask us about these options during your consultation.
